The festival of Jakar is a newly introduced festival celebrated inside the courtyard of Jakar Dzong in the central valley of Bumthang. The festival constitutes of numerous masked dances performed and presented by the monk body of Jakar Dzong. The villagers also present folk songs and dances in an offering of sorts to the protecting deities of the valley.
This annual event on the calendar draws a large number of crowds from within the valley as well as from afar. The festival is a congregation of people to receive blessings for peace, long life and prosperity in the region. Attending sacred festivals as such is believed to cleanse one off all evils and bless one with good health.
