Getting in Bhutan

By Air

In the past 50 years Bhutan’s transport system has been transformed. All its Provinces are now connected by road and there are direct flights in and out of Paro International Airport to India, Nepal and Thailand. Bhutan also has three domestic airports in the central, south and east of the country. The two airlines operating flights to and from Bhutan are Druk Air and Bhutan Airline. The nearest Indian Airport is Bagdora (West Bengal) south west of Bhutan, which is 4 hour’s drive from the Bhutanese border town of Phuntsholing. Alternatively, there is Guwhati (Assam) south east of Bhutan, which is 2 hour’s drive from the Bhutanese border town of Samdrupjongkhar.

By Land

Visitors can also enter Bhutan overland through India either by road or rail.
